Excellent

8.1

out of 10

The good: Six-hour battery life; unique optical drive hidden under wrist rest; very small and light; rugged construction; lifetime tech support.

The bad: Small spacebar; expensive; some design quirks.

The bottom line: Panasonic's innovative, long-lasting ToughBook CF-W2 fills the bill for ultraportable-seeking business or home users.

"Fantastic product! Well-suited for students and professionals."
December 3, 2003
Pros:
I have been using mine for over three months and have greatly enjoyed the experience. I can hardly see why people who appreciate functionality, light weight, and good aesthetics (black color is not) would buy ANY other laptop. In my opinion, there is no other product on the market that offers the same value/cost ratio. I think it's about time for Panasonic to go mass market with this product line!
Cons:
None. People approach me all the time admiring this little technological marvel.

Dynamism.com - Sony Vaio G1

Dynamism.com - Sony Vaio G1

At its lightest (1.98 pounds [898g]), the Sony Vaio G1 is certainly the lightest "fully-usable" notebook ever produced. Breaking the two-pound barrier--with a full a 12.1" XGA TFT and 17mm keypitch keyboard--seemed improbable simply because these are not shrinkable features.

Dynamism.com - Sony Vaio G1

This casing, along with a shock-mounted HDD, make the Vaio G1 very durable. It is tested to survive a drop (although not guaranteed to do so), and should be able to withstand 120kg of weight (although not guaranteed to do so).

With the DVD-RW inserted, the G1 weighs 2.17 pounds. With the DVD-RW and the double-capacity 12-hour (ideal list time) battery, total weight is 2.46 pounds! We think that stat is actually more impressive than the 1.97-pound base weight. Sony thoughtfully made the AC adapter small and light, as well.
